| Stitch & Motif Maker uses a variety of handknitting
symbols. The important thing to remember is no matter how the symbols are
labeled, use the symbols that are meaningful to you as a knitter. The modular
cable system is terrific for building complex twist stitches. |

| The most spectacular knitted fabric is usually made up
of a recurring group of stitches, thus the word motif in the name. We knitters
need only to grid the number of stitches in one motif. As in music, we repeat
the stitches as we are knitting to create a memorable melody in our fininshed
fabric. |

| Stitch creation and reinvention is an exciting
adventure. I use Stitch & Motif Maker in many ways. I create my own
patterns that are unique to me. I redo charts in a commercial pattern with the
colors that I am using in a particular knitting project. I import clipart and
convert it to knit stitches to use as the basis for Intarsia patterns. I could
go on forever, but I know that you really want to start using the program.

| Putting It All Together -- When you have a grid and a
legend, you may want to print it out on the same sheet of paper or you may want
to include the grid and legend in a Sweater Wizard Pattern.
